The weirdest thing happened to me today
Hello everyone,
I drove to work this morning, 1984 300SD, everything was perfect. Nice comfortable ride. About an hour ago I decide to take a trip to Home Depot but the car had no acceleration. I was thinking, this can't be right. Then I got on the Boulevard and it was soo slow! It wouldn't go over 40mph with the acellerator pedal floored! I was thinking WTF?? I pull into the parking lot, open the hood everything was normal. All linkages in the right place. The vacuum was working fine. Had good brakes. So I went shopping thought about it for a while. When I got back outside I opened the hood again and hit the acellerator manually. Revved up normal so I got in and drove it and it worked like nothing ever happened. Now I'm thinking is this just a freak occurance or an omen of something bad about to break? Very weird. Danny |

Yes it is probably toast - you need to sell it immediately to a forum member for a token price immediately!
OK Seriously - my experience is the car is telling me it's about time to change fuel filters.

Fuel issues of some sort.
Fuel filter partially clogged?? Tank strainer partially clogged?? The problem will likely return, however, nothing will appear to be "broken". |

I had a similar problem on mine, and after looking twice , found that the e-clip that holds the linkage together had popped off. I found it by pushing down on the linkage at the firewall, nearest to the foot pedal.

Anyone want to buy a cheap car??
I'll check the linkages again but I don't think that was the cause. And being that it close to 80 degrees here today I don't think fuel gelling is an issue either. I would be more inclined to lean towards a clogged tank strainer or fuel filter. I was going to replace the fuel filters but I want to get a hold of some diesel purge first. What would be good to use for tank algea? Danny |

This is just a fuel starvation problem. Change filters and, if there's evidence of fungus, use Biobor to kill the stuff; it's available at marine supply stores (the biobor, that is).

I would go with the fuel starvation or WATER in the fuel. Could be turbo but highly unlikely, how many miles?

..one other thing to consider - especially if the plastic fuel filter isn't obviously filled with lovely black "bugs" - maybe you got a gulp of air in there somehow? It would take awhile to run the air through and back to the return line to the tank. Tank full or nearly empty?
Your description sounds pretty similar to what happens when I run my WVO tank dry .. doh!.. and have to switch back to diesel. Takes a little ways to push the air through the IP, through/past the injectors, and back to the diesel tank. ..just a thought! fred |

Change your fuel filters.
Also maybe your parking brake was on? Don't worry we have all done it.

change all the fuel filters first, then go from there --but it's fuel starvation Dennis, P.S. if not you can off load it here

The guy's are probibly right about fuel/filters.
But has anyone else notices diesels are finicky and moody? I've got quite a few miles in them, VW mostly, but MB is no different that I can tell. Some day's, or even trips in a day, you'll get in them and there jusr itching to go. My 300D, on a good day, you'll just lay your foot on the throttle and it springs away from a stop, just really lively feeling. Other days, and there not too often, but it happens, I swear it seems like it's down on power, not bad, it will still go, just seems like that just off idle jump is gone. Maybe it's temp related, who knows. But I've observed this in half a dozen engines I've spent close personal time with, and it's always the same. Strange.. Anyway.
