A Good Deal?? Two MBs for $$3500 ?????

The Owner of the Shop I go to here in North Miami has two cars he offered to sell me as a package; What do guys think of the price?? Many here truly have a more realistic idea on prices then I have. Here's a description--the good and the bad!

Car #1) 1981 300TD(4 dr.) Auto, 175,000 miles,Blueext.. The bad--paint faded bad,no rust, interior needs a good detail, dash has 5-6 cracks, needs tires. The Good-2 years ago-complete Valve job, newseals, complete(professionally). Rebuilt Injector Pump-everglades rebuild& calibration--great job($1100 owner's price) Starts in a heartbeat, idles and accelerates like no tomorrow. Has 3 small dings on rear quaterpanel. No smoke on startup.Tranny shifts great.

Car#2--1986 300 SDL--226,000 miles. Auto. Dark Blue ext.The Bad--Has a Transmission issue(won't shift out of 2nd gear if I remember right.Had the car as a loaner a month ago and it drove great out on the interstate-who knows what happened-(its one of the owners loaners, as is the above MB) needs an A/C compressor. Has a rust area about 3"x2" on top of right rear fender. Sunroof does not work. The Good-- Interior fairly clean, needs a good cleaning, a few trim issues-nothing major except sunroof.Starts immediately with no smoke, idles smooth. Ext. Paint--Good, no fading.Looks like the backseat area was never used--like new. Good used tranny at owner's price $550(not including installation)

Both cars were bought from customers of the Owner-so their are maintenence records (very detailed) going back 20 18-19 years.

Wants $3500 for both--a good deal???

If you spend the $550. for the transmission on the SDL, that vehicle alone is worth $4,000.

Definitely a good deal.

If it was local I would hop on it......................around here anything cheap is usually a rust bucket.

either one of those cars could probably be waxed and ebayed for the price of both. plan on putting some more money into them, but I don't see how either car could do you wrong for the price- both are in pretty high demand, and the records help greatly.

It sounds like a pretty good deal. Try to find a used AC compressor, the SDL uses a Nippon compressor that runs $900 last I checked.

Could be-last time I drove it for 3 days I was thinking to myself"What a nice running SDL" ran and shifted great, felt like a Tank on I-95--the owner/head mechanic truly does not have the time to check it out-he's swamped with work-my VW TDI has been in his shop for a week with a hard starting issue. I don't mind a bit, he always gives me one of these as a loaner--keep it for a month or two!

If you've got the time and money go ahead and get 'em. What have you got to lose?

The Recycler that has the Tranny has an A/C compressor also-not sure of her price. I will have to invite her out for Coffee(hot looking latin from Chile) maybe her price will drop!

Scott Come on Down!! Weather today is Sunny, no rain in the high70s. If you are a Good ASE mechanic you could go to work tonight, either marine, auto or heavy truck type!!! I work in the Medical Field so no shortage of work there either. There is a real shortage of Good Mechanics-be it automotive, marine,or in the Bldg. trades. What is lacking here in the Miami area is a Work Ethnic--you know--work starts at 7 pm not at 8:30 and it ends at 5pm. Here the workday is punctuated by many chit-chats, coffee breaks, ect.

miamimike,

I actually went down there last spring three different times looking for work without any luck. I'm not a mechanic so that's not an option. I don't think they look at me too seriously without a connection to the area. I've almost given up. It's hard without some kind of network. I have one friend down there but he works like a mad man and doesn't really have the time to "put the word out" for me.
