Chip tuning for a S350
There are some european tuning shops that claim that do chip tuning for the s350.
The power increases from 150 to 180 hp and the torque from 310 nm to 370 nm. (http://www.dbilas-dynamic.de/) Im sure that each and every owner of this model would like to see this on his car but the question is how safe is this to be done on a 603 engine. First this engine likes to bend the rod (at least on the original engine) and second because the design of the head, this engine tends to overheat. Chiptuning is real popular in europe and so far it has been very safe in general. Since the 3.5 engine produces 150 hp-about 47 hp per liter, which is the minimal value for specific power for a turbo diesel engine that I found on most of the engines produced around 1995 (mostly european) and chiptuning shops in europe sell chips that increase that specific power up to 80 hp (240 hp on the 1998 e300 td) without a problem. I would love to hear the opinion of the experts on this as Im sure that every owner of the s350 would like to see an increase in power and torque on his model. Thanks |

Why not just pick up an S320? 65 extra HP and the engines do not self destuct. Bet they are cheaper to buy than the diesels too.

I did not realize that the 350SD had an electronic engine management system?
