Does your car "feel" different when cold outside?
Hello
Our E300D feels little different when its cold outside. Today it it -11 C outside and even after the car is fully warmed, small rattles can be heard in the cabin etc. When it is warm, the car feels more smooth and no rattles can be heard. I realize temp plays a big role on how metal, plastic behaves etc... Hopefully this is why it rattles Do you guys notice the same thing, in cold climates.? I realize temp plays a big role on how metal, plastic behaves etc... |

I notice that too....
Aside from the engine needing to be warmed up for a longer time, I used to have a rattle that would eminate from the r. rear door panel. In the spring and summer the rattle would be gone, but in fall & winter, it would return. The rattling was sourced to the rear window lift mechanisim, which typically on cars of thhis age, are showing their age- my lift in the r.rear door was "sagging"- the window was not closing all the way, and was out of position.. that combined with the cold tempeartures created that darn rattle. So I replaced my window lift and the squeak never returned.... The 300DT has been rattle & squeak free ever since, in all temps. The C280 on the other hand is a completely different story. Rattles, shakes, and squeaks can be heard on any day of the year... even though the car is up to par iin terms of maintenance, rattles abound! Seems that fit and finish build quality went down hill on the W202 and newer Mercedes cars. The Most annoying rattle though, eminates from the rear hat shelf brake light housing and rear window sunshade housing... the thhump and vibrate along with the radiio!!! Its like nails runniing on a chalkboard! I re-tightened thhe bbrake light housing down to the hat shelf, and although that did reduce vibratiion, thhe cover for thhe bulb housing vibrates against the housing itself... thanks to the loose fitting plastic on plastic fiit and finishh! I am going to try and remedy that by lining the edges of the cover that meet thhe housing with soome sort of felt like material, thin enough so thhe cover will still close, but soft and thhick enough to absorb thhe vibration... the rear sunshade vibration is a whhole other project in itself...

My motor mounts on the 124 vibrate the whole car from about 35 degrees down! The colder it gets, the vibration gets worse! But after about an hour of running, the vibration is barely there. If I put the car in reverse the vibration is gone all together. Maybe I can get away with replacing only one motor mount, but will do both in the spring!
Also, when below 12, the climate control suction motor burried below dash panel to floor, sounds like there is no lube in the elec motor and squeeks louder when steering around turns in the road. BB

Somebody will probably come along now and point out some better, faster, slicker way to do it, so maybe I'll learn something new. |

My driver's side door really rattled a lot today, and seems to always do so when it's really frigid. Definately seems like there are a few more creaks, rattles and ticks when the temps drop. Wind chill about 4 degrees farenheit right now.
