I'd be in for a couple too. Especially diesel or whatever is finally decided.

This thread breaks my heart because we lost Dave late last year. He son started a thread saying he had passed unexpectantly.

But I think he would want everyone to have a shopforum badge.:D Count me in for two, but I bet they will be expensive. Has anyone gotten pricing? Maybe if we can order a couple hundred it would be more reasonable. I hope they won't be made offshore.

JimZ 01-04-2007 03:51 PM

I agree. The problem with this is that they would need to be ordered in bulk to be affordable. The problem there is that someone has to feel okay about fronting the money, or everybody has to be okay with sending money to someone to chip in. If we can settle on a design, could the ordering/distro be something Phil could do? Then anyone who wants one can order it from Fastlane.

MattBelliveau 01-04-2007 03:51 PM

I work with this kind of thing daily at my day job. If someone had artwork (.pdf format, at least), and a size reference, and an approximate quantity, I could get some prices within the next couple days.

Could you use artwork in AutoCAD? Or maybe a .tif?

MattBelliveau 01-04-2007 03:57 PM

a .tif would probably work. Or, even verbally: number of colors, size and quantity.

MattBelliveau 01-04-2007 03:58 PM

R Leo 01-04-2007 04:03 PM

Don't expect anything out of me.

Yah...good idea Randy, I'm in for two "diesel type" Thanks for taking the lead on this.

No time for this anymore.

IIRC, after being taken on by another Forum member, this project went into committee and never seemed to come back out.

MattBelliveau 01-04-2007 04:04 PM

$16.25 EACH??? Is there any visual ideas posted in this thread? I didn't notice any.

There are a few photos in the "Car Badge" link on the website. They look pretty awesome. I think $16.25 for a custom cloisonne badge is reasonable. Was there ever a design?

SwampYankee 01-04-2007 04:18 PM

I'm just a newbie here so I don't know much about the history on this, but if there's still interest in these badges you can definitely mark me down for one.

pj67coll 01-04-2007 05:19 PM

I rather like the look of the original one in the first post on this thread.

- Peter.

Dubyagee 01-04-2007 05:28 PM

I would be interested in a badge as well. Sticky a final design when completed.

justinperkins 01-04-2007 05:30 PM

I'm interested as well.

I am sure that the three pointed star is copyrighted, but I doubt we would be worth going after. We are not trying to profit from reproducing the image.

ForcedInduction 01-05-2007 01:07 AM

I'm still in for one if they are ever produced.

JimmyL 01-05-2007 01:20 AM

I would be up for 3, but I really like the one in the very first post.

If we go with a round badge, I like version 5 (attached).

I don't particularly care for the one in the first post for the simple reason that the high mileage badges have a MB star with text around the outside. That said, if everyone else likes it, I'll still get one ;)

$16.50 each isn't bad for me buying 1 or 2, but it sure makes it a little pricey for the person buying 100 of them to resell!!

On that note, If we get a design, find a manufacturer, get a quote, etc. would the webmaster be willing to front it? Or maybe have Fastlane front it since it is basically free advertising...

nhodges 01-05-2007 02:25 AM

Badge

I'm in for one. Don't like the idea of the "SHOP" taking the rights to your design though.

cjl1973 01-05-2007 03:25 AM

I might be down for one, depending on the design and the price.

bgkast 01-05-2007 03:44 AM

I would take one

Mercedes-Benz has a total LOCK on the three point star.
They are litigious where it is concerned.

Depending upon how boring their day is, which of their lawyers finds out about it, if and/or how they are offended/care = determine to pursue or ignore it.

This is a strange fact, however if and/or how they are offended is the major factor, and leads to really odd prosecution.

I've seen little indy shops with the MB star in their signage, and they've been forced to remove the sign time and time again.

If you think that they won't notice us, think again. Using the MB star without the endorsement of MB itself would be a BAD IDEA, IMHO.

It's not a matter of *if* MB Shop is trying to profit from "The Star". It's a matter of MB protecting their logo and making sure that wherever you see it, you can bet your a$$ it is an Authorized Dealer.

Then how about getting permission? The BMWCCA uses BMW's roundel logo, so they must have gotten permission. What about the MB Club, do they use the MB logo?

winmutt 01-05-2007 12:09 PM

Im in.

SwampYankee 01-05-2007 12:18 PM

FWIW-the link to the samples on the first post (Quality Lapel Pins.com) shows several clubs with the MB logo and/or car on them. I wonder if they know what the technicalities are or if the clubs just went ahead with the design and decided to worry about it later?

BMWCCA is a registered non-profit and considering the MB Club's history (http://www.mbca.org/pages/history.htm), you can see that they have been sanctioned by MBUSA.

Hey if MB Shop can get sanctioned, then we're in!

I have several Graphic artist customers, I will throw some of theese ideas at them, and see if they can come up with a good design for a badge. I also think that once this gets approved and a design is decided on, we all who are interested should have phil or Brian depending on who decides to run with this, start accepting orders and taking payments to get the total over the minimum limit.
I think the BIGGEST reason this has taken so long is NO MONEY HAS BEEN PUT DOWN.
show me the paypal account, or the order # and I will pay for 3!
John
I also will start designing a nice window sticker.... and print them.
