Custom Mercedesshop.com Badge anyone?

1 Attachment(s)
I'm testing the waters based on this thread thread to see if there is enough interest in a custom Mercedesshop.com grille badge to warrant a group purchase. In the referenced thread, prices mentioned being in the 'high teen's' depending on the design and if we could put together an order of 50+.

When we figure out a design and get a price, I'll order 4 right off the bat plus, I would be willing to manage this endeavour.

Here are some samples of custom grille badges.

C'mon gang, whaddya ya think?

H-townbenzoboy 02-01-2005 08:43 PM

I like the idea. Lets get started on design ideas.

JamesStein 02-01-2005 09:31 PM

I'd certainly buy 2 of them. Of course we need to make sure that we get Mercedessops permission if we want to use their name.

83-240D 02-01-2005 09:36 PM

2 please

how about the mb star and the word shop above the lower triangle?

LaughingGravy 02-01-2005 09:38 PM

I'd prefer a window cling, saving my grill for mileage badges. Otherwise, I could see myself getting hooked on adding more badges
Are there any more of the window clings?
If no chance on the window cling, then I'd certainly pony up for one grill badge if under $20.
This place is like a second home.

Same for me.

mplafleur 02-01-2005 10:58 PM

I'm still waiting for those MercedesShop fender covers...

andersbenz 02-01-2005 11:04 PM

R Leo

Great idea! Count me in for 2.

ForcedInduction 02-01-2005 11:04 PM

You can count me in for two. One for the 240D and one for my toolbox. :D

The keystone and two flag "Jaguar" designs are my favs.

Larry Delor 02-01-2005 11:11 PM

I'd be curious about some badges myself.

(at the risk of hijacking the thread...What about front license plates?)

tomm9298 02-02-2005 12:12 AM

Resounding YES !!!

Mercedes shop has saved me a small fortune. I am proud to be associated with a group of people such as this

amoore 02-02-2005 12:34 AM

I would buy 2 for sure.

Badge Designs

Just a thought but when I had my first business I went to the local art school and spoke to a couple of instructors who happily put this in front of their classes as a project to work on.

I ended up using the logo they created in my business and gave them a $100.00.

For this badge though I would think the bragging rights to having a badge that you designed all over the country on a bunch of Mercedes might be a pretty good incentive. As long as you make it clear that in the end none might be used and that the final decision is up to the members of the forum (good cop, bad cop) then you comeout a winner no matter what.

p.s. I'm in for a couple myself...:D

I'm not too worried about coming up with a design or producing the art. I'm OK at that sort of thing.

braverichard 02-02-2005 02:22 AM

Hey Super count me in for three badges. Will someone take on this project? I would be really awesome if we can get the website's permission to do this and pull it off successfully. :D

phidauex 02-02-2005 02:37 AM

My quicky count says we are up to 22 badges! ;)

I'm definately down. Thanks for grabbing the bull by the horns, Leo.

Now here's the big question.... Do we make them MercedesShop specific? Or diesel specific? I suppose just mercedes shop specific, so we could all use them, but it would be tempting to have it be diesel-specific.

My vision is of the mercedes shop 'wrench logo' (reworked so it looks nicer, but same basic concept) in a big circle. Over the top it could say "Do it right" and along the bottom it could say, "Do it yourself". Or something else that celebrates the DIY spirit. ;)

I'd be happy to make a few mockup designs, but it sounds like leo has some big tools of his own. I'll see what I can do.

Peace,
sam

Radio Nut 02-02-2005 02:50 AM

I'll Take 2

How about the wrench & star, with "Diesel" above, and "Discussion" below?

Surely it would not take too much to make another order without the words for the open forum crowd, et al.

braverichard 02-02-2005 06:45 AM

Yep I agree. Having a "diesel" one would be SO ULTRA COOL!! Then having a general one for the entire mercedesshop forums would be nice as well. In that case I'll have 2 of the diesel ones and 3 of the general ones. :D

Smooooth 02-02-2005 07:59 AM

I'm in for 2

I like the concept of a 'Diesel' badge, although just having any badge is a great idea!!

Stephen

bhatt 02-02-2005 09:12 AM

Put me down for one..

I'm in for one badge.

One thought on the Diesel vs. generic badge.... I'd prefer that we use a generic "Mercedesshop" badge.

As much as I'd like something with "Diesel" on it, my guess is that we won't have quite the quantity needed to produce these unless the gas car owners jump in with is.

Even if we have enough, the price will be lower if we can get more people in on the deal!

Looks like my radiator won't be getting any oxygen any longer...

Rick Miley 02-02-2005 09:34 AM

I'm in for 3.

Marcb 02-02-2005 10:47 AM

I'm in for 2.. I like the idea!

rgp123 02-02-2005 11:07 AM

Design question...

Please forgive me if this has already been considered. If you have a "diesel" badge and a "general" (gasser) badge, does it constitute two designs and therefore 50 badges per design?

I would like two diesel badges if there is a diesel specific design. :D

Thanks Randy!!

Dance'w'Diesels 02-02-2005 11:26 AM

Count me in for one! :toff:

TomJ 02-02-2005 11:38 AM

I dunno man, last time I wore a badge, I got shot three times! OK, so they missed twice, but still.

Will there be a kevlar grill cover to go along with the badge?

I'm in for three if there is, or you'll GUARANTEE they won't take hits!

Old300D 02-02-2005 11:51 AM

I like the diesel badge idea, count me in for 1 of anything though.

phidauex 02-02-2005 12:24 PM

We are already at 40-something badges, so a run seems like its totally do-able.

I suppose we'd need to ask the grille badge makers if two designs counts as two separate runs, though I'm inclined to believe that they would, since two designs means two dies. Though they might be able to give us a partial discount since we are the same group.

peace,
sam

Wes Bender 02-02-2005 12:27 PM

I vote for "diesel", but put me down for one, whichever way we go.

Who knows.. If you come up with a nice generic mercedes shop design maybe you could sell it to Mercedes Shop. Their logo is sort of .. well. um..odd looking.

tomm9298 02-02-2005 01:46 PM

If there is a choice

Make mine a DIESEL badge, please.

Oh yes, BUMP :sun_smile

LaughingGravy 02-02-2005 01:58 PM

How's this?

MercedesShop.com lettering is missing and is clearly open for debate of placement and content, but here's my concept for the basic badge.
I think it should be round with "mercedesshop.com" across the top and "online forum" or something to that effect on the bottom in wraparound letters, going with the round logo.
Our mileage badges are round, so why not?

SilentMethod 02-02-2005 02:17 PM

Count me in for 1

w/ lettering.
I'm thinking black letters on silver or white letters outlined in black on a silver badge.

Diesel Discussion black lettering or white lettering.
I also like the idea of a black outline around the edge of the circle.

R Leo 02-02-2005 02:55 PM

To All:
I've received a conditional go-ahead from Bill Wood. The caveats are that they must approve the design and that they retain future production/distribution rights.

LaughingGravy 02-02-2005 02:58 PM

I can see it now...

Ok, it's not the grill from my 300TD, but the thought is there.

LaughingGravy 02-02-2005 03:09 PM

If my design passes...

For Bill Wood and R Leo,

If you like any of the designs I've submitted, I'd be honored.
I really like the MercedesShop logo anyway. It's just a matter of keeping the look and consolidating it.

jerryyoung 02-02-2005 04:12 PM

Put me down for 2 badges - 1 diesel and 1 generic, if you split them. Otherwise, 2 of whatever you come up with.

Thanks, R Leo, for the idea!
Jerry

phidauex 02-02-2005 05:47 PM

Gravy-man: Likin' the designs! I've already got some smooth wrench imagery at home (I'm at work now), that I didn't know what to do with, maybe I'll rework it into a similar shape as yours, and get some collaboration going. ;)

And for the record, any artistic contributions I make to the project would be freely donated to mercedesshop.com. :)

peace,
sam

DieselHead 02-02-2005 06:21 PM

I'd be in for 2.

H-townbenzoboy 02-02-2005 06:46 PM

I'd like two diesel badges or whatever we're gonna go for.
-Joe

Fisherman 02-02-2005 08:03 PM

at this rate

Shouldn't we get 20 each and then see who can get them on eBay first?... :D
Just kidding of course.

Wish I could find my original Bavaria badge but it has long since lost all it's color and I'm sure that old BMW is dead by now.
Anyone know of a source for these things that has an extensive selection?

rbarnes 02-02-2005 08:15 PM

The design is looking good. Put me in for 2 (two).

This is a great idea. I'd be interested in 1.

Spo123 02-02-2005 08:49 PM

Yes!

Absolutely! I will need at least 2 "DIESEL". Perhaps another "DIESEL" and "REGULAR" for the old folks back home......... :P
I am SURPRISED that not one single one of y'all has even mentioned the thought of some nice "DIESEL DISCUSSION SKIVVIES"!!!
Best wishes always and lets keep those diesels SMOKING.
Spo out

I need two and I don't care what design you decide on they are all good. Just let me know when they come out and I'll be there with my money!

Gravy-man, took your design and ran with it. Its now in illustrator form, and is assuming a 3" silver badge with 4 enamel colors, grey, black, green and blue, with the silver metal showing up as the lines between each enamel pool (anywhere you see light grey, imagine silver).

The text can be whatever, I like the idea of a 'diesel' badge and a 'general' badge, but I'm happy with what the consensus decides. I'll still proudly wear one. ;)

Oh, and if anyone wants the .ai file, PM me with an email address to send it to.

Peace,
Sam
