87 300D vs 300D 2.5 Turbo...

My father is looking at getting a 300D 2.5 Turbo for himself. Is this car much of an improvement over the 87 300D? They are several thousand dollars more, and I want to know your opinions on whether or not that money is worth it for the newer car (but with less power). Thanks for any thoughts.
