OM617 Injector Work

Has anyone had any experience with these folks for rebuilding/balancing 617 injectors? They claim to do them, wondered if anyone here tried them in the past.
Thanks

This looks like a site for fuel injectors, as in gassers. I didn't see diesel injectors...

Best Regards,

I'd like to clean and balance the injectors for my cars...(soon to be plural)..

wonder if a homemade pop tester can be good enough to balance them?

And where I would find shims to do this from.

I emailed them before I posted and they said they perform this service for the OM617 MB engine. Very quick reply too. I'll probably guinea-pig this for the group. Go the week of the 20th off and will probably try to get the injectors out then.

Don't do it.

rmmagow,
There is no way in he** to properly rebuild a Bosch diesel injector for the price they are quoting. This outfit doesn't even mention diesels on their web page.

You will be far, far better off getting TomJ here on the forum to build a set for you. He definitely knows WTF he's doing.

Or check with these guys...

I believe that I read $20.00 per injector.

rmmagow,
Try giving Boston Fuel Injection in Smithfield, RI a call. I think the guy I talked to is Carlos. They are quite helpful, tested my injectors for $20. I have also had a VW IP rebuilt by the Chelsea, MA shop and they were good too. RT

Count me in with the others who think that the service described on the web site appears to have nothing at all to do with diesel injectors.

From one of the pictures there, it looks as though they put a number of (gasser) fuel injectors, assembled, in an ultrasonic bath (of cleaner, I guess) and "actuate" them (all injectors are hooked up electrically). They also claim to replace filters and o-rings. Now, for all I know, such a treatment really might help to rejuvenate crudded-up gasser injectors, and I can see where they could do something like this for $20 per injector. I would be interesting in knowing (from data, not just claims) how effective their cleaning method is compared to the "on the car" fuel injection cleanings available from many shops. Maybe it's the case that a combination of ultrasonic action and the right cleaning solution really cleans 'em up. Powerful stuff, ultrasonics.

For diesels, though, I'd repeat what others have recommended. Stick with a shop (big or small, local or elsewhere) that knows diesel injectors thoroughly and is interested in doing the job right for you.

Call me picky but I consider spelling a sign of professional service. The website doesn't spell "detonation" correctly.... RT

I have an diesel injection pressure tester. When they need balanced, I use a feeler gauge strip cut into small squares to put in under the origonal disc.
0.009 thou usually brings 'em up from 125bar to 155 bar ...U can buy feeler strip blade from most tool trucks...well I do ..!

I also buy new pintal assemblies to instal in worn injectors rather than buy new or exchange injectors as most that I test are 135 bar or less and often different bar pressures.
Oh yeah...I pressure test all the new ones too.

I like the feeler gauge material method. clever!

I have some of the thicker shims (1.80-1.95 mm.) stockpiled, and I sand them in a little home made jig to get the thickness I want.

I find 0.05 mm. = ~3bar.

Thanks for the plug Randy.

One question of dkveuro; What the heck are you running to 155 bar? Just curious, the 617 turbo is 135 spec and I too run them up a bit for SVO/WVO injectors, but only about 5 bar (138-140 bar.)

Also, do you have someone who can supply you with German nozzles, or are you using the India ones? Found a way to rehab the India ones? I've tried all the tricks on the India nozzles and they're still crap for me. Have pretty much given up on total rebuilds as of late because of this.

I have run them up to 170 bar in my turbo motor but usually I set them at 155.
I find that it gives a little cleaner exhaust and better idle quality.
A 1988 300SDL I just finished rebuilding has 160 bar pressure injectors with new pintals, with a 2 degree retarded timing. Runs VERY quiet and starts INSTANTLY and smooth.

However, I did use Total Seal ring set and it was less than 1% leak down on the block after I installed the new pistons. The cranking pressure, now it has done 3000 plus miles, is 560 psi.

I buy my pintals from a OE warehouse.
They are usually Bosch .
The ones I am working with now are: Bosch # 0 434 250 110-3B0.
The little cylinder they come in says : Made in France by ROBERT BOSCH , GMBH D-70049 STUTTGART, GERMANY.
