500,000 Miles, Here We Come

I'm pleased, my 1982 300TD just rolled over 250,000 miles (on the way to cscmc1's house to pick up some glass, interestingly enough), and I felt like showing it off.

Its on its original engine, but the last 20,000 miles have seen a complete transmission rebuild, valve adjustments, new GPs, new rack tensioner, new timing chain, complete front end replacement, new suspension pump and valve, new accumulators, new motor mounts, new front brakes (rotors, calipers, pads), new front seats, a CD player, a repaired A/C system, a completely functional cruise control, E-code H4 headlights, new front and rear glass and more.

It has CLK wheels, a full tint job, third row seats, all of its headrests (quite an accomplishment, it seems), and the only stock feature that doesn't currently work is the power antenna.

Original paint looks great on vertical surfaces, and is pretty faded on horizontal surfaces, but there is no major rust (few bubbles, but none in wheel wells, or on jack points or rocker arms or anything structural). Paint job coming this spring.

It handles great, starts every time, smokes a little (only on startup), pulls with confidence to a pegged speedometer, and gets around 22 miles per gallon of biodiesel.

And no, its not for sale.

I think I'm in love.

Peace,
Sam

God bless ya, my '84 300 turbo diesel just turned 212,000.

Barely a quart of oil every 2,000k, crisp, tight handling and plenty of tubo boost WHEN IT'S WARM and minimal blowby.

When starting from cold it's a different story, can't run away from it's own shadow.

I'm hoping I can get there, the engine is in great shape for 250k, and with care, hopefully I can get into your class.

Mine definately has more power when warm, but even cold its not too bad. I'm using a quart of oil about every 2k as well, though that seems to have gone down with the delvac in there... May be too soon to tell, though.

Peace,
Sam

The coutdown begins/ Possible Record

412,000 miles is very impressive. I would like to reach 500,000 miles..not sure if it will happen. But with my daily commute at about 75 miles I have a chance.

I rolled 226,000 miles this week and I have begun my coutdown to 300,000 miles. I expect roll 300,000 in Jan/Feb 2008. I know it will cost me a few grand in the meantime.

Keep driving. I think the record or something that is probably close to the record is in this month's Mercedes Enthusiast page 7 and lists a 1976 240D with 2,852,000 miles..yes 2.8 million miles. Does this person ever sleep?

Geez, Phideuax, taking pictures while driving 28 mph? That can't be safe ...

Although ... apparantly, I was going 35 when I turned over to 200,000 ...

322k +

I have a 1983 300sd with over 322,000miles and I have been using less than a quart per every 3,000-mile oil change. I do not know about how it runs cold never drove it until it warmed up. How much info does this article give about the 2.8 million mile Benz’s life? I am curious about how it was driven and maintained. Hell it only took him three motors to get to that mileage.

I'm looking forward to 250k, later this year, I'll be over 245k in the next few days.

I plan on rolling over 250k at 120mph.

Please don't attempt to take a picture of the odometer while doing this.

I was actually PLANNING on rolling over at 80MPH, but I hit road construction at the critical moment and had to slow down. I was actually navigating through a traffic jam while taking that picture. It would have been even easier on open highway.

Taking the picture with a digital camera is pretty easy, just take a few practice shots to get the right position, then do the same thing while driving without looking at the camera. Snap a few shots in a row, and pick the best one.

peace,
sam

I did mine with a Canon Digital Rebel ... big bulky camera, had to sort of balance it on the steering wheel. I took the one as it rolled over at 35mph, then pulled into a neighborhood and took a couple with the odom on 200k. I was on a back country road that is hazardous enough without the photography challenge.
