That's a good argument from the perspective of complexity. Certainly an OM606 is far more complicated than the OM603's or OM617's many of us have. I've been looking at buying a W210 car and certainly agree you can get more car for your money in a 6 or 8 gasser. But I still like the "driveability" of a diesel engined car. The high compression of MB diesels (at least the 603's and 617's I've driven) offer a lot of engine braking without downshifting. I really enjoy the very precise speed control this gives on deceleration - particularly on hills and entering corners on winding roads. Take the pedal up on gassers and they seem to roll-on like a ball bearing.

Actually after having worked on a 603 and a 606 I prefer the 606. Think of the 606 as an evolved 603, they fixed all of their mistakes.

Don't get me wrong I would love to own a Turbo E300D. But if I had a choice between a 1999 E300D with 160k on it for $22,500 and say an 02 or 03 E320 with 80k on it I would buy the E320. Or the E430 and enjoy the power.

The hydraulic suspension was an option for that car. It is in the original sales brochure.
Just because it is not in the owner's manual does not mean it was not offered. My owner's manual has nothing in it about the rear sunshade but that was clearly an option on these cars as well. It does not even give a location of the switch or an indication of what it even looks like (I have been wondering about this for years - have never come across a 126 that had one).

I have the self-leveling hydraulic suspension in my 350SD. As well as ASD.

BTW, on the ebay ad. Very well done, indeed. Although I'd like to nitpick a few things. The first generation 3.5 liter puts out 134hp @ 4000 and 229 lb/ft @ 2000. There is no E300 CDI(those don't come out until the aluminum blocked V6 arrives, along with the 280). Herb forgot to mention the 280S carburated versions. The roadside assistance is 1-800-FORMERCEDES, not 4-Mercedes. ;)

I feel somewhat guilty for ending the sale early, but when a persistant buyer has his banker call to ask for your routing #'s, it gets really hard to say "no".

At any rate. The car sold for a few K more than I wanted, and I felt that I would be foolish to turn this fellow away. The car is gone. It was neat, but the then the whole eating and paying bills thing comes into play. So on to the next case-

Hmm nice sounding S350, $15,500 is probably a good price.

I'd love to eventually "upgrade" to an SDL, but I've got my 300SD in such perfect shape now that I don't want to let it go.

Keep the 300SD, but sell the 500SEL and Toyota for the S350D. :D

Well the 500SEL is already on its way out. I'll be putting it up for sale as soon as I can. I want to get this '91 Euro 560SEL available for sale near me. :D

I need the Toyota for those nasty winter days when these rear wheel drive Benzes would just love to get me in a ditch or something. :rolleyes:

The 560 I picked up has 63k miles and paid under $10k after negotiating, but will be a little over that once you factor taxes, shipping and having the car professionally detailed before arrival. I don't know if this was a "steal" or not, but it was a tough 6 months finding a car like this. I don't know what a car like mine would sell on ebay for as the ones that were close to it were always pulled off ebay early. Ironically, the car is in a color I never heard of called pearl grey #122. Seems that mostly w124's where in this color.

This is the first time I heard of a US spec car other than a 560 having self leveling system. The self leveling system is an option on most cars outside the US market. The 350 is a very nice car... but I believe that the 560 is a much better car due to its engine and power. Other than that.. the 350 is like the 560 of diesels. Glad to hear these cars (w126's) in pristine low-mile shape go for high amounts. Makes those who have them feel special.
