1991 350SDL in Memphis,Tn 72k miles

http://www.herbertphillips.com/350SDL/350SDL%20040.jpg

Here's a 1991 350SDL that I am offering. A one owner car with 72k miles, original paint, good books/records. The miles are certified and not exempt.

After some well deserved abuse last go-round, I decided to omit statements like, bulletproof, and things about MB diesels going 500k miles.

This is one of the nicest w126 cars that I have seen in five years.

Enjoy! :indian_ch bids start @ $19.91

I can see your reflection on the tires.

Thanks for doing that. Your cars look so nice (and I'm sure they actually are nice) that there's no need to use lies to sell them. My opinion. Sharp car. Should fetch a good price.

Good looking car Herb.
PM me the name of the person doing the conversions please.

In regards to the music - if you are going to do that how bout some Spiro Gyro?

arkie 02-20-2005 02:47 PM

Herb that is one nice looking W126 - it is pristine. I wish I wasn't tied up with buying a new house right now, I would have to have that car. I am across the muddy ditch from you in Marion, AR.

$14K with 8 days left!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

braverichard 02-21-2005 09:49 AM

Damn!! Well, I guess it is well deserved. I mean, this car looks sharp, has really low miles and has all the service records to back it up. See Herb, no need to use false statements like I said earlier. Your cars are so good that all you need are pictures. Even the "truthful" lectures are unnecessary. :)

Hey two questions:

1) Is it just me or does the engine look like it fits in the hood much better than the five cylinder OM617? Doesn't make much sense to me since this one actually has an extra cylinder. Or is it just the better designed and located air cleaner that makes it look that way? Great detailing job by the way. Man that engine (like the rest of the car) looks sweet.

2) I can see a reservoir that looks like that for a hydroneumatic self-leveling suspension in the hood. Is it what it is for? I didn't know you could get that suspension on 1991 350SDLs.

Hatterasguy 02-21-2005 10:36 AM

I bet it ends for $16k, thats a lot for a W126. To much to turn it into a daily driver.

HerbPhillips 02-21-2005 11:14 AM

I guess you fellows were right.

I guess the superflous statements in prior auctions were actually costing me something...

Also what's interesting is that a super nice w126 appears to be worth more / attract more traffic than a comparable w140. I suppose that will be put to the test when I list my 1994 S350 (103k).

About the rear suspension, the 350SDL is equipped identically to the 560SEL, with the same standard options. I think the 350SD didn't have the suspension as a standard option as it was short wheelbase, and a touch less expensive.

No basis in fact, just yet. The previous W140 has 160K on the clock and did not get a chance to run the full auction.

This one is climbing dramatically due to the very low mileage, IMHO.

There is something about 99K or less that sends the price into the stratosphere, almost like the bidder believes the 14 year old vehicle has been transformed in time so that it is brand new.

Does this car really have the hydro what ever ride system?

 And what about the chrome on the fenders was that added? I have the same car and have not seen one with either of these options. Are they from the factory? or were they added to the fenders later?

braverichard 02-21-2005 01:53 PM

I just checked the VIN. It indeed has the troublesome rear suspension. However this suspension, when maintained as should, doesn't give any issues. I actually once looked at an '86 560SEL with 311K miles in which the suspension worked. The car had all its service records and the owner said he never had to repair it. All he did was maintain it as recommended by MB.

The chrome on the fenders must have been added on by the original owner or the dealer. I know MB had a "chrome appearance package" on these cars but that also came with chrome wheels which this car doesn't have.

AFAIK, the chrome fender trim had to have been added by the PO.

Can't believe that he added the hydropneumatic suspension, however.

It is a beautiful car

And if I was in the market I would be bidding on it. I don't care what is said about the engine from my own personal experince mine has ran flawlessly for 250,000 miles with only minor repair issues. It burns no oil and I love this car. Good luck selling it. My guess would be it sells for around 16,000 and will the car will last nearly forever. I do find it interisting that this car has the leveling system in it and to me that would be the only drawback to this car is the leveling system and I am glad mine does not have it.

Is the 91 SDL the year that was notorious for cracked heads? or is it 92?
