Chain rail pin puller for 603

I was going to use a bolt/socket/washer combo to pull the two pins that need be removed to yank the head. Measured the inside diameter of the upper pin with a dial caliper and got 5mm. The 5mm bolt I bought slid in the pin without stopping but the 6mm bolt I had was too big.

Any ideas? 5.5mm special tool only?

I used a series of small sockets and washers and the end bolt to extract mine out of my 603. It took a little while to get them out, but they came out. I have heard of a special tool specific for this task, but I didn't want to wait around for one, so I just had at it, and got the job done! It can be done, and as the old adage goes, "where there's a will, there's a way"

before I was working for MB, I bought a pin puller designed for MB engines from snap-on, I bought it for my 116 engine, but it works on a variety of other gas and diesel models, including the 617, so I would assume that it would fit a 603 as well.

Just about any bolt in the engine bay that takes an 8mm wrench will go into those pins.

I got a long high grade bolt at Pep Boys that took an 8mm wrench. I didn't even think about the threads and it fit without problems.
