I read all I could stand about hard closing

door latches. Most of it had me looking to the nylon(or some material) inserted into the striker plate below the round hole. I smoothed that material flush with the plate, put in a self drilling/tapping screw and closed the door. It latched perfectly.

It would not open! Kept yanking until the screw tore itself out of the remaining nylon and the door opened(the head of the screw was too large). I removed the remainder of the material to see how I might fix this thing.

Just for kicks, I attempted to close the door and it again latched perfectly(and still does) Is that bumper there just to take out slop when the door is latched?

I noticed that my parts car is missing that material from the passengers door and it also works as it should.

The striker on my W123's has a small bump to it. It is there ,I think , to position the lock mechanism.

Look at the pisture of the part. This is how much of the plastic tab you shoudl have, If I understand you correctly.

One of my doors gives me a problem. On that stricker, the plastic is worn compared to the other 3.

I do my best thinking on the throne - so later

in the day yesterday it came to me that those bumpers are there to keep me from destroying the striker. Anyone know if they are available for replacement? I can find the striker but not the bumper.

Thanks,
