Finally a MB 123 300D owner

I just bought an '85 300D. I'm the third owner. The first owner kept it for just over 200k, and the 2nd owner for another 20k. Both PO had car serviced regularily, and had oil change at 5k intervals.
Drove it 400 miles home and it didn't skip a beat. Everything on the car works except the cruise control. And the PO's tech told him it was the amp.
And the PO upgraded lights to the Euro kind.
I will be reading some old post re the amp repair.
I would really like to thank all of the forum members. Reading their comments and expierences are priceless.
A southern car, NC and not a lick of rust.
Thanks again
Charlie

Congratulations!

I looked for 6+ months before buying my 300D, so I know what you mean by "finally". That wasn't because I was holding out for a concours condition car, either - they're just not that common around here.

It's fun to drive one instead of just reading about them, eh?

wahoo, me too!

Just bought mine and drove it about 300 miles the next day. Actually, it's an '85 300TD Euro with a 4 speed manual and no turbo. A little slow on the takeoff, but I think it's worth it since I've gone about 370 miles on one tank of fuel and the light hasn't come out yet. I think it's a 13 gallon tank, which puts me somewhere around 30-32mpg!!! Can't wait to fill 'er up with some sweet B100 tuesday when I get back to Asheville.

New 123 300D

Hi Charley,Just picked up your thread today,I know you are going to love your 300D,those 123's are bullet proof(if you take reasonable care of it).
where in B'ham do you live?.I was born and raised in Warrior,a one horse town north of B'ham about 18 miles.
I have owned a 1984 123 300 D and deove it for 10 years and loved it,Never had a bit of trouble with it.
I spent most of my life in the US Navy and retired here in Va Beach Va.
My wife also is from B'ham and we both have family back there and we drive down there every six months or so. If you need any help with your car, this forum is your life line, and I have owned Mercedes since 1972,and Have owned five cars and I do all my owne work on mine.
So welcome to the forum, and if I can ever help just give me a jingle or email me,
Thomas Brown.

Hi Thomas, I live in Calera which is about 30 miles south of Bham. It's a small world. I have a brother who lives in Va Bch. and works for the Navy. And my wife went to the 1st grade in Warrior.
I have to tell that driving back through NC, SC and GA was a pleasure. The interstate is in such good shape.
Do you know anything about radios? The Becker Gran Prix is not able to pick up FM. It only has static. The AM works fine.

Wow Will,
For alot of us you have our dream car. At least I know it's mine. We certainly are going to require pictures, i.e. exterior, interior!, and engine bay. Awesome car! You don't need no stickin turbo.....
Enjoy!
