Injector problem

hello , I have a 350 sdl.........nope still running........the injectors were "rebuilt" before I bought it......well first off , I just replaced the return hoses because i guess they felt pulling the injectors and not replaceing 10 dollars worth of hose was a good idea....My fire wall and undercarriage won't rust now due to the amount of fuel oil covering them...okay, the number six injector seems to have some blow by coming from around it. possible out of a little machined notch in the head. I pulled the injector and there appears to be a sealing ring/spacer/something under the nozel of the injector that was reused when they were rebuilt....Is this a crush washer of some sort. does this engine normaly sound and Kinda idle like my 5 cylinder 300d (84). It feels like it is missing but once reved up, smooth as silk. Ignorence is bliss untill my wife smells diesel.

Sounds like they did a hack job and the injectors are probably just OTC rebuilds (not balanced.)

The washer is a crush washer of sorts, it's called an injector heat shield and is a one-time use item. Once it gets crushed down to make a seal on the injector, that's it.

If you install injectors with old shields, you won't seal on the nozzles and they'll overheat and the bad seal will allow exhaust gasses to to blow-by into the injector (between the nozzle body and the injector body - PITA to remove the stuff!) coking everything up.

Should be a smooter running engine than the 5cyl, but it's probably because of imbalance in the injectors.

If you can, find an injector shop locally who can balance them to BETTER than +/-5bar and that seems like they can be trusted. Then order some new heat shields for the install.
