It is an exceptional 126 However, I wouldn't give $18K for it.

I would never ever bring it up into this climate, things tend to rust even in the summer. $18k does seem high but it looks like a gem SDL.

Yes, that is one exceptional example. If I was the original owner, I'd build an addition to my garage for it! It's a piece of history.

You got to be kidding
18K, doubt he will get that, but that makes my 300SD worth 12K, and I was considering 6K
I am excited!!

You slay me Randy!!! Heh....

Don't be surprised if the guy gets the 18K....look at some of the vehicles that Mr. Phillips has sold...they got some high dollars.

I couldn't pay it...unless he took the last "0" off the price, but there is someone out there looking for this deal.

Anyone got Jay Leno's number?

It is pretty nice, it has a lot of original parts under the hood. I bet that radiator is 1987 vintage. I guess it is pretty clean too, but mine was that clean after I detailed it. My wheel well is still cleaner and I drive mine everyday!

I would say $10k-$14k would be a fair price.

For $18k you could buy a 2001 XJ8 with 60k miles on it, cars don't hold their value these days.

It would have to be a weekend toy driving it everyday would be stupid. And you could never sell it because the value is only going to go down.

I agree about the 14K price. I disagree about the idea of the values going down. These cars have already bottomed out. Exceptional examples are now appreciating assets(although not in the same league as an SL).

If the car has been meticulously maintained and loved the way this owner represents, then, to the right person it is probably worth what he's asking. I'd sooner pay him $18K than a dealer on ebay half that for a pig in a poke which is what 95% of the cars there are. These cars are so easy to roll back that if you buy one with relatively low mileage without knowing its history first hand you can almost guarantee its been played with by someone.

I emailed the owner and he said the records clearly show the car's had fluid changes at 2-3X as often as the recommended 7500 mile interval with Mobil 1 for the past 10 years and prior to that with conventional oils at the same interval. If that's true the engine probably specs out at close to new for its overall condition. He's kept a log of every service and every tank of fuel since new and knows the mileage of every tank of fuel since 1988.

It's the kind of weekend cruiser that would take the place of a less practical toy like my 560SL and if I had the garage space for it I would give it strong consideration.

$$$$$

I hope that he gets his price, 'cause I have a 1987 300SDL with 90, 000 miles! Beautiful cabernet red metallic color with cream interior with sheep skins on the front seats and headrests since new. Interior looks like new and the outside looks almost new (a tiny dent in the back - damn.) Garage kept, always. List price was $50,650.00. I didn't drive it much for years because I had a company car. Now I'm using it every day and I'm loving it. Super car! And I get about 26mpg local driving.

Pretty nice, I just wish Benz offered the less troublesome 617 in the L chassis... hrm maybe I could do a swap.

There's a plethora of the 617s here that need homes laying dormant in the boneyard.

The 603 is a great engine as long as it's not overheated. Since I bought the car new, I know that mine hasn't been overheated. And, it's run fine for 17+ years. However, when you buy used, you don't know. There lies the problem. Still, if you bought a 300SDL for around 4 to 8 grand, and had to spend 2 grand fixing the head, IMHO, the car would be worth it. It really is a terrific car!

What about the lifespan of the 603 vs the 617? I'm really intrigued by the '86-87 due to the extra doo-dads and long wheel base. Mind you the '85 is here to stay.
