Seat belt extender for 300SD 126 chassis

Seat belt extender for circumferentially challenged -- 300SD

Problem: While the seatbelts fit me in my C230 and 240D, my girth presents a problem in my `81 300SD. The darn seatbelt is too tight (read, my gut is way too big).

Solution: Purchased a spare seatbelt from the local junk yard. Removed the seat belt assembly from my car. Went to a sail maker and asked if he could splice in a section from the junkyard belt. He said no problem and had one of his guys in his sail loft sew in a section.

Installed modified seat belt assembly in car: Comfort and safety at last.

I know I know, next step is to lose the weight

Hmmm

How much did they add to the anchor side of belt?
Does it sag or fall in the door?
That is a very clever answer to your problem.

whunter,

I had the sailmaker insert a foot long section. A little over kill.

It will sag a couple of inches when I exit the car unless I pull on the tensioner, which will take up all the slack.

MB wants $1200 for a modified seat belt.

The sail maker charged me $8.00 to insert the section.

I don't know about MB but GM and Ford will give you a seat belt extension just for the asking. It is just a short belt with a male and femal ends.
Advantage is that if a skinny person wants to drive the car the extension can easyly be removed.

It won't hurt to ask.
