Fixed My Windows & Blinker!!

My front passenger & rear drivers windows never worked since I got the car. I checked the fuses, but no luck there. I finally pulled the console switches & they were FILTHY!! The contacts in them were all carboned up & nasty with god knows what. I cleaned them all up & got the passenger window working, but not the rear one. I pulled that switch & got it to go down, but not up. Finally after taking it apart a couple times I got it working both ways, UNTIL I put it all back together & it doesn't work at all now, again! I'm going to try pulling it out again, but I'll probably order a new one & be done with it!
The blinker problem was two fold. First a resistor in the relay burned up, it had fallen off & was rattling around in there. I pulled the one from my 240D, but it didn't help any. I pulled the hazard switch out & it was all nasty inside too. I got it cleaned out as well as I could & the blinkers started working again. But the hazards still don't work. Gonna definitely have to replace that switch too. At least my turn signals work now though.
Didn't see these kind of fixes in a search, that's why I thought I'd post them here now. Hope it helps someone out.

No doubt some old spilled beverage along with dust, etc. Center console mounted switches are vulnerable to spills from the PO who just had to have that double latte in the morning...

If you open it up again, check the solder connection on each pin carefully, as the joint can loosen and the wire pull back or out. I almost lost one pin, where the wire goes in at a right angle. I resoldered it and it stayed put.

Oh, good to hear of your success so far, and thanks for a great, encouraging post.

Best Regards,
Jim

Hey Jim, Thanks for the tip! Doesn't seem to have been my main problem, but there did seem to be some kind of short in there. I got it working good again.
Wabeenze, Good Luck fixing yours, does sound like the same problem. Be careful of the drivers side switches, there were two little steel balls in mine.

all your switches should have the ball bearings to pivot on.

FYI, the window motors are fused criss cross. meaning LF and RR are one fuse, RF and LR are the other.

Nope, only the one had the steel balls. all the others had this plastic piece with a chiseled head on top of the spring, a little easier design, really.
