Glutton for punishment
I purchased a 1997 300e diesel and had to put the third injection pump in it before 55K miles. The car is doing so well that my wife took it away from me. I purchased a 1987 300TD on eBAy because I really want to work on a car. This is the perfect canidate since nearly everything has to be done. I don't have any paper work other than a serial or VIN#. How can I find or get the chasis# and engine numbers. Any hint will be greatly appreciated as I am about to make a parts vendor more wealthy.

Any parts vendor you call who uses the MB Electronic Parts Catalog can find whatever you need using the VIN. The first step in looking up parts is to enter the VIN into the computer and then it uses that to look up the parts. Yes, some things are done by engine number or other numbers, but the computer program automatically translates it from the VIN. Please consider clicking the Fastlane link at the top of the page to buy parts, because purchases there support this site. Phil at Fastlane can get LOTS of things that aren't listed on the web site. So if you can't find something, or have parts questions, go ahead and call.

I was sent to a dealership by him when I asked about a windshield. He said if you are not at this or that place, it is kinda of a dicey thing to send such a large piece of glass. Here are the part numbers, go forth and order it from them.
