Replacing rear shocks.
So this weekend I will be replacing the rear shocks in the 85' 300D. I think everything should go smoothly but was wondering if there was anthing I should keep in mind when changing em out. They are not the self leveling, rather just regular shocks, and I have my trusty torque wench handy to make sure the bolts are back on snuggly. Just wanted to make sure that I was on track for an easy install and uninstall.

Here are a few tips:
You have to support the rear wheels when you jack up the back of the car to remove the shocks because the shock is all that holds the rear wheel assembly from falling down. To get at the top mount, you have to remove the rear seat. Be careful not to rotate the piston rod when removing the main strut rod.Rotating the piston rod could cause it to come loose, resultiing in sudden dangerous extension of the piston rod. Take off the bottom mounting bolt and remove the shock from the bottom. Before installing the shock, stand it upright and push it all the way in and out a couple of times. Assemble in reverse order that you took it apart. |
