Soy Diesel Update FYI

I received a newsletter posting from the fuel co-op that supplies our farm and many others here in the upper midwest:

Re: soydiesel

"We have been supplying soydiesel at a 2% blend since 2001. The cost of 100% soy runs around $2.50 per gallon. When blended at the 2% rate, this has added 3 cents to the price of diesel fuel, until now. The federal gov't has enacted the biodiesel blenders credit which credits $1.00 for every gallon of soy blended - or a $2.00 credit for every 100 gallons of 2% soy. And, with the price of diesel and soy being so close now, (diesel is at around 95% of 100% soy), there is an interest in purchasing 5, 10, and 20% blends. Currently we have been limiting sales to the 2% blend due to the tightness of the soy supply. As more soy production facilities come on line, we will be pleased to offer stronger blends. Soy diesel is not yet available at the pipeline terminals and continues to be handled separately."
