190d

I see very little info posted on these, yet they come up pretty regulary in the want-ads. Does anyone have an opinion on this model?

Mark

My 190D was awesome. Although it had a tendency to rust. It was a 5-speed with the 2.2L engine. I could get almost 50 mpg sometimes. I averaged about 43 mpg usually. Just like any car, keep up on preventive maintenance and it will run great. The car has been sold back to my family mechanic who is completely restoring it. If you buy one, purchase a southern W201.

I have to agree with the previous two posts. I drive about 1000 miles a week in my 1984 190D 2.2 automatic, averaging over 40 mpg. Comfortable and economical - who could ask for more?
Truth is, I would trade my wife's 300SD for another 190D in a New York minute.

Love 'em

As a matter of fact, I own 2 of them right now, (see my signature). I will be selling the automatic '86 2.5, but I wish I had room at my house to keep them both. Great cars, great handling, great fuel economy.

For those who have driven both, how does the 190d 2.2 auto or the 5 speed match up against a w115 / w123 240D manual in terms of performance and drivability?

I've driven an 86' 2.5 with a 5-speed and they are really nice. They can be almost as fast as a good 300D auto.

Just don't plan on having anyone tall sit in the backseat...

Been 10-15 years since I have driven my son's 240D manual but I would say the best comparison I can think of would be the difference between my daughter's 4cyl, gutless Sunbird (as the 240) and my wifes V6 3.8 Regal Sport (190).

Jetmugg,

If you are truly interested in selling I would appreciate the particulars.

Selling the car.

Yep, I need to sell it. This car is mechanically great (freshly rebuilt auto trans, new struts, shocks, thrust arms, etc.). Engine runs very strong and doesn't leak anything. Approximately 225 K miles (ODO doesn't work, but mileage is very close). Factory Becker stereo. It sits a little lower than stock on lowered springs. Stock wheels, decent tires. Runs great, drives great. All the windows work, sunroof works, A/C blows cold. Heater blows hot. Has a nice palomino interior. Dash has cracks, but I have a dash coverlay that I haven't installed yet.

The exterior is just a bit less than perfect. Fully functional, but has a few dings and homely spots.

This car could drive anywhere. I need to get it sold to make room for my other projects.

$2500 takes it away.

Pics:

I'll get some pics this weekend for anyone interested. The car is white, and is basically "plain jane".

New windshield

Another nice feature is that the car has recently (last 6 months) had a new windshield installed. It's always nice to see the world through clear, unscratched, un-pitted glass.

Plain Jane is good, but what condition is the interior in, other than the dash cracks. My biggest concern would be rust, not ding in the paint, surface type, the serious kind.

Would be interested in some pics.

Pics to follow

I'll send pics. My own assessment is that the interior is pretty nice (door panels in good condition, one small crack in the driver's seat bolster), floor mats in place.

There is a small amount of rust at the jack hole locations, but does not extend into any of the structural areas of the unibody.

I'll list the car in the classified section and post/send pics.

SteveM.
