Light Bulb Replacement question....

I just noticed tonight that my light bulb behind the fan speed switch on the CCU has passed away.....first time I've seen it dark....the rest of the buttons are also dim so I presume more than one bulb has died in there....how do I replace them, and, where can I get my hands on these special tiny bulbs.....I'm slowly watching my dash get darker....and darker....and I want to stop it from continuing....its not urgent obviously, I just want to do it sometime in the near future so I can have some actual dash lights back again........any idea where I can get these bulbs? The stealership probably has them.....but I know they're going to want a ton of $$$ for them....

I tried replacing those today with some bulbs that I thought would fit from AutoZone...but no luck. Fastlane doesnt have them and neither does ************************....but the dealer does. The run about $2 a piece, but if I could find em cheaper I would buy em for sure.

Be careful buying ones from the auto chain stores. I got some from pep boys awhile back that they said were for the car, indeed they were and they fit and worked, but they had to have been higher wattage bcause they started to melt stuff.

Typical dealer price on them is ~$2 a bulb, theres 4 in the acc unit and 1 to the fiberoptic lines.

I think you're thinking of the 2721 "grain of wheat" bulb. My local Advance (formerly Discount) store had some from Sylvania. I bought them in packages of two - a little less than $4 per package, if I recall correctly.

Edited to add: Sylvania and Phillips both use 2721 as the reference number, but it has other reference numbers from other manufacturers. I've also seen it referred to as a "W1.2W, 12 Volt".

The correct bulb for behind the fan speed switch on the CCU is a 12V1.2W bulb. Oh and those marking were tiny.

If they are $2 each at the dealer then its not too bad...I'm guessing I have two out, the one behind the fan switch and the one behind the right side air flow buttons....as its dullest on that side.

Thanks for the bulb ref #

Also though, how do you replace these? is there a way to get them out fairly easily? My one that does the fiber optics is also out....so I'd probably try to do that one too....

First you have to take off the panel that covers the screws behing the CCU. Mine is black plastic, I have seen others that are wood, it just pops off with a flathead screwdriver.(be careful not to break the panel, cracks in it dont look too nice).

Next, there are two screws at the right and left corners that you unscrew to take the CCU out. Dont take it completely out but enough to get your hand behind it.

You should then see the wiring to the blubs, there are four of them, on the top of the CCU. There is a fifth a bit down the wire, not sure if that is the fiber optics or not. You can just pop the bulbs out with your hands, but when installing the new make sure not to touch the bulb as it will wear out faster. Just pop the bulbs back in, screw the CCU back on and put the panel back on and your done.

I have the part number for the lights. I bought them from the dealer this afternoon.

The small bulb behind the CCU part number is:
0072601-012230 @ $3.81 a piece

This is according to my reciept and the number the tech wrote down that he pulled off the computer.

Is the light for the fiber optics the same? and where is that lightbulb located?

my Dash lights work, but none of these do, Is it just a matter of many blown bulbs, or can this be something else? I would assume that they are off of the same power circuit as the dash lights?

thanks
Doug

Help Please on this subject!

Can anyone tell me where the power to these above mentioned little bulbs comes from, I looked all over the wire schematics and I am still at a loss. I have my Dash lights, and My auto shift indicator lights, no blown fuses, but every one of thoses lights will not work, they use too. even the one in the light switch for the fog lights on indicator won't light. I replaced them all with the correct bulb, It;s a real PITA using the ACC and window switchs at night, any help or info would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.-----Paul

much of it goes through the dimmer switch on the dash. Mine has just about had it, I really need to replace it.
