W124 '91 300D, Replaced motor mount
I replaced the driver's side motor mount on my car today - took a bit under an hour. The severe vibration I had at idle is completely gone, and I'm not suprised given how badly the old mount was torn up. It basically fell apart after I removed it. I used an OEM mount from the dealership after reading posts on this forum warning about aftermarket mounts. It was nearly $100 but the results were worth it. I had to remove two of the lines from the fuel heater and use a 1/2" drive universal joint with a thinwall 17mm socket to remove the bolt from the top of the mount. The lower bolt was 8mm hex - I used the long end of an ordinary allen wrench, placing a 3/8" socket extension over the short end for leverage. Fortunately, it was not too tight.
