Cruise control

When resoldering(sp) the cruise amp, does the removal of amp prevent the normal running of the car? I have a '85 300D and was wondering if I had to complete the resoldering before driving.

Thanks
Charlie

On my '81 300SD I was able to remove the amp and drive the car without a problem.

Peter at GDL fixed my amp and it has worked perfectly for the last 4000 miles.

Made my trip from Austin, TX to Cape Cod, Mass a lot more pleasant.

The cruise has nothing to do with the regular operation of the car. Lots of people just remove them when they go haywire rather than pay to fix it. If you do much highway driving though, it's graet to have a working cruise system. I also had GDL rebuild mine (both of them) and second the recommendation. Regardless I suggest you check their website for some troubleshooting procedures before you start soldering.

I'd be interested in the number of people who actually have problems with the circuits on that cruise control amp, 'cause we pulled mine and it all the connections looked good, but I still have intermittent problems with the CC. More often than not it doesn't work.
