Engine Mounts

Looking at the MB manual IF you have a hydraulic engine mount as follows:
Hex nut engine mount-transmission 70 Nm, Hex bolt engine mount-engine support bracket 25 Nm, Hex bolts of engine supporting bracket 45 Nm,
what color is your W124?

White in color. 135K.

I believe there r 2 bolts. There is a hex bolt on top and a allen bolt from the bottom.

Reading ur reply, please correct me if I am wrong, it is 25N for the top bolt and 45 N for the allen bolt ???

looking at the drawing there is a hex nut on top to torque 70 Nm, the bracket hex bolts (2) torque to 45 Nm, the engine mount hex bolt torque to 25 Nm

Thanks for the info.

Looking at the mount, I figured the torque specs were critical. The mount life would be shorten or the mount may be damaged if the torque was too high or too low.

25 N for the lower hex bolt is not that much. Neither is the 75N for the top hex nut.

My guess is if the mount is not torqued correctly, it will fail prematurely. This is aggravated by the fact that there is fluid in it. Unlike the 617 mounts that r purely rubber, this mount is hydraulic.

Could the incorrect torque specs have caused these mounts to fail prematurely on some cars?

Some of u folks have said that the dealer mounts are better than OEM. For those that failed with OEM mounts, when installing these mounts on ur car, did u use a torque wrench to tighten to specs ?

I found the torque specs at the skinnerbox web site.

The lower hex bot is 25 Nm and the upper hex nut is 55 Nm.

Believe it or not but the info is buried in the Cooling System !

torque

i cant imagine that the torque is that critical. i would just use the arm torque test, i think.
