Climate control unit quick fix

My fan wasn't working on my 85 300SD. After reading around here I finally pulled my new CCU I bought that shortly failed after I purchased it. The plastic was deformed in the same place. Burnt circuit board. So I finally unhooked the Auxillary water pump ( unplugged by battery). I pulled the plastic top and soldered a 22 gauge(insulated) copper wire between the two solder points that spanned the burnt strip. Put it back in and I have A/C. Planning on picking up a junk CCU and refurbish as a permanent solution. I am also going to refurbish the a/c and bring it back to r-12 with a new drier and add the missing switch on the drier that turns on the fan. I just got my 609 cert and waiting for the certificate. I didn't want to use my social. Paranoia.

Jim,

Can you give a little more detail about what wasn't working and why this fixed it?

Also, do you have any pictures?

I'd love to get a better understanding.

By the way, what's an aux. water pump? (yep, pretty ignorant on this end).

Thanks

The aux. water pump circulates coolant to the heater core. On W123's it located behind the passanger side head light assembly. It has 1 electrical plug and a coolant line connected to each end.
