sunroof rail is rusting pretty badly

i'm assuming i should use some sort of rust-proofing agent...any suggestions? also, how far should i sand it down before spraying?

What do you mean by "sunroof rail"? In my mind , that could be the chrome retainer on each side or the wind deflector.

they are chrome. it's the part that the water travels down to reach the drains, i believe.

Sorry, I've still got a mental block. I don't associate anything chome with the drains.

The only bits that are chrome that I can think of are the slide mechanism that the sunroof slides on (I think they're stainless) and the retainer that srews down over them with a number of phillips head screws that keep the sunroof from blowing out.

I suppose you can try painting the retaining rails, but most likely paint won't stick without some heavy sanding and etching. Why not get some from a junkyard?

There is always the Getto ....or Trailerpark repair....leave it closed and caulk it solid with roofing cement....

Just kidding.
