just bought a '78 240D for $700...
It's got 246k miles, and has a little cosmetic damage (ok, more than just a little, but livable), but seemed like a good deal. The shifting is fairly tight, the engine is no louder than I've heard in other 240D's, and I've found a wealth of information (including you guys) and parts on the web.
Since I'm not a mechanic, or even close (graphic designer), I will probably be lurking around here asking some dumb questions. Please have patience. And, if you ever need any help figuring out any Apple computer problems, I'm your man! -Jason
