Error Code Question 1996 E300D

My Check engine lite came on today while driving. The car runs good. I plugged in the computer to the diagnostic port and I get a message when trying to clear the code "Errror 1209" unexpected result and the code won't clear. Anyone know what that code means or where to look it up?
