The SDL's are fairly rare in general as they were only produced from 1986-1987 with a production of under 7,000 in 1986 and under 9,000 in 1987. "SRS" is "Supplemental Restraint System" aka the Airbag, which is inside the steering wheel.

The '86 and the '87 are very similar. In fact, I can't even pin down the differences between the two.

I don't know if you read it or not, but I already posted the official worldwide production numbers.

13,830 300SDL's were produced during model years 1986 and 1987.

5,509 were produced in '87.

8,321 were produced in '86.

Those are the official numbers worldwide(though I think the markets were limited to US and Japan).

I believe they have different rear end ratios. I know the 87 has a 2.65. The 86 probably 2.88. If you crawl under the car and look at the back of the differential you will find out. Sometimes you have to do some scrubbing. I also believe the 86 may not have had the trap oxidizer. I have known of some that never came with it but I am sure it is possible that some have.

This one definitely has the 2.88 and the manual only shows a 2.88 for the 126.125.

Can't be sure about the trap. How can you tell if it was replaced or not?

trap replacement

the trap is a huge canister on the passenger side of the fire wall and the replacement is a cast iron pipe in its place

True, but is it possible to tell a vehicle that has had a trap replaced from a vehicle that came from the factory without a trap??

trap info

if you contact a dealer and supply the VIN they can tell you if the trap was replaced or if it never had one. easily done with a phone call (I did it with my wifes car and was painless)

OK, I'll try it next time I'm down there.

Thanks.

thanx everybody, mine does not have the oxidizer now(unknown if it did). it needs a timing chain and rails and the belt idler pulley needs replaced but the price was right. sell my 300d and split the proceeds. no rust that i can find, but the plastic on the front bumper has some cracks, pops hit a couple turkeys. all in all, i'm quite lucky. all the info on this sight has been tremendous help in the past, 308,000 and counting for the sdl.
