Oil in intake manifold

Hello all,

I posted a thread in tech-help a few weeks back but didn't get any insight on the problem I'm having, so I thought the diesel folks may have a better idea on this.

I have a pristine, and I mean pristine 1993 600SEL sedan with the 120 motor, yes I know its not diesel, but the diesel folks may know what the problem is.

Here's the scenario-

After 30-40 minutes of driving , the car can produce copious amounts of white/bluish smoke from the exhaust.

here's the thread from tech-help

Anyway, the intake has crankcase oil in it, pooling up in it. I'm guessing this is a crankcase ventilation issue. Any insight guys?

Herb,

Sorry that I am unable to help you with your problem.

But, I would be interested in reading your driving impressions of that V-12 engined car.

Thanks

Is this smoke occuring during ...

#1 Steady state driving... or
#2 Acceleration... or
#3 Decelleration...or
#4 All of the above.

These all point to different things and is therefore important to know before we can venture an educated guess.

The problem occurs after expressway driving for 30 minutes or so. Oil pools up in the wells of the intake manifold on the V12, then after it begins to spill over into the intakes, the engine burns the oil. After the oil burns off, it stops smoking about abruptly as it started. Right now I have the intake removed from the engine. The oil seperator was bone dry upon removal.

I have two 600 mercedes right now. I drive a german spec 1996 S600 coupe as a daily driver, and it has TONS of power. Stock horsepower ratings are around 450hp.

It drinks gas, but the cool factor outweighs it.

My 1993 600SEL is also neat, but I can't drive it due to the smoking issue being unresolved. My guess is that the oil seperator is failing and allowing crankcase oil back into the intake. There is clean crankcase oil all over the insides of my intake manifold, also the oil was pulsing through my vacuum lines that were attached to the intake.

Anyone know anything about the oil seperators on these cars?

What does that engine use in the way of a PCV valve...perhaps its sticking or a valve cover breather is clogged......

I am just pulling straws not being familiar with this engine. But sometimes a cause is simular with various engines of totaly different design.

IS it possible that the EGR could be sending crankcase oil into the intake?

I removed the EGR valves (one per head) and the right side was all clogged up with oily residue, and looked as if it had been pumping oil. Could the EGR pump crankcase oil? Is this common on the 104? the 120 is essentially two 104s fused together @ the crank...
