It finally happened - Hood Ornament Gone

Well, it finally happened. My wife went to the grocery store and came home missing the hood ornament. Please don't post "how to's" on booby-trapping a replacement or what to do to the spineless individuals who would deface a MB. I am just thankfull they didn't see the need to further vandalize the car or worse yet, steel it. I am simply wanting to know what everyone is doing for replacements.

I think I remember reading about someone on here a few months ago who replaced his ornament (after being stolen) w/ a decorative block-off plate. DOes this sound familier to anyone?

Performance Produdcts dot com has them for sale. I hate the punks that do that sort of thing.

Me too. When I went out to help her bring the groceries in, I was lividly PISSED at the Scum that would do such a thing. It might not be a new MB, but I work hard for everything I have and absolutly despise anyone that thinks they are entitled to take what ever that want, whenever they want.

But he jokes on them, sort of. When they tried to pop off the star, it broke a the neck. So the bottom of the ass'mbly stayed on the car and all they got was the star w/ no base. hahahahahaha

But I am over it now and just want to move on. But I have vowed to never go to this store again unless I absolutly have too. And even then I might stalk around for a little while in the shadows quietly watching.

This is exactly why I don't want to put my high mileage badge on the grill. It sits rather proudly on the dash to the left of my instrument cluster. If I was you I would tell the store manager what happened in his parking lot just to let him know of what goes on there. You probably won't get compensation but you will get peace of mind.

The hood star for 123 cars used to be $13. It's not worth getting so wrapped around the axle over $13.

I realize how angry it can make you because I have absolutely no patience for a thief or vandal, but your health is worth more than $13. You also can't buy a block off plate for $13.

Good luck,

I bought a removable one off ebay for under $30. It just pops out, and up pops a little trim piece with a star on it in place of the hole. Well worth the investment.

Best solution right there. I of course just bought the chrome plate and replaced my hood star with it in an effort to pre-empt any vandalism. The hood star kind of bugged me to begin with. I am merely waiting now for my trunk star to get ganked.

I'm wondering if there were any surveilence cameras around that may have recorded the crime.

too bad they don't just make chrome plated plastic replacements that break off easily. If they looked OK except up close and broke when removed it sure would take all the satisfaction away from stealing it.

Aw geez, I was gonna unveil my new 'punk disembowler', nifty little device that instantly kills anyone who touches the star w/ 3 feet of spring steel across the abdomen, if that doesn't get 'em, the laser backup system will.

but you're not interested...

belly button

i have often preemtively removed my hood ornaments and replaced them with a $2 stainless steel sink block off (for closing an extra hole in a ss sink). it looks like it grew there!

i have also even taken off the trunk tristar and installed a reflector. I once used a blue one and referred to my car as a blue light special.

I always chuckled to myself at my supurb humor.

That is some good humor ..........

As for skulking about in the shadows Don't waste your time. Although who knows maybe you'll find the cast aside star (broken as you said it was) a co-worker came in the other day said his extension ladder and some tools were stolen from his garage.....Now THAT would suck.

I need more coffee and less "smilies"

Thanks for the support. To address a few comments. There is no video security camera in hte parking lot. The store manager doesn't really care. The store was recently bought out by a "lesser" food store chain and the over all store has gone way down in quality. Everything from the quality of product to the quality of customer. She happened to be there b/c there was a great sale.

As for a plastic replacement star. I was thinking that same thing. I would love to find a plastic star that's crome plated. I may look into the sink hole plug thing.

I looked around on e-bay yesterday and found a few MB medalions that can take the stars place. Will any of them fit?

You might think about grounding your battery out on the base of the star. That would be a surprise for whomever tried to snag it!
