When I first start my diesel it vibrates enoulf where you can see the hood vibrating, but seems to fade out when it gets warm. The person I bought it from said it might need new motor mounts. Now I have owned diesel trucks in the past but the vibration seems excessive for this car. Any comments? Thanks

What model diesel do you have? FWIW, my car does the same thing in cold climates. You should check the motor mounts and replace them if necessary.

vibration on W123 Diesel

I have a 1983 D Turbo. I will try the engine mounts, in the Hayes Manual it shows a engine shock absorber in a picture ? Do you know anything about this?

If the mounts are original, I am quite sure that they are close to being flat. Cost is somewhere around 15-20 dollars, and not impossible to put in. Look under your car for the shock, I think its on the passenger side, below the turbo. I suppose you could replace it too, but I think that you'll get more results from new mounts. That and toss in a bottle of Diesel fuel catalyst from Redline, you will notice a difference, as other users will confirm.

Motor Mounts & Shocks

Replaced these on my 80 240D which is the 123 body style. The engine shocks were OK but the rubber in the mounting kit was gone.

If you do the motor mounts, you need to replace the transmission mount as well.
