Wagon Brake Calipers Same as Sedan?
Hi All,
Are the Brake Calipers on a Wagon (300TD turbo) the same as the Calipers on a sedan (300D turbo)? Front same and back different? My calipers on my new wagon are smoked and I may have found some off of a sedan of the same year. Thanks! -Matt- |
123?
if it is a 123, they are the same in my experience. i have had an 82 and an 83 td. the wagon will be a little harder on the brakes because of the extra weight.
i had trouble with my td warping rotors. i feel in retrospect that a td would be a good candidate for a vented rotor and caliper installation from the s class. it is all bolt on. |
Yes, Both are W123.
I've never had probs w/ the brakes in my wagons, but before this one, they were all NA... Thanks! |
Sorry, but they aren't. The piston/bores on the rear calipers are slightly larger than those on the sedan. It's not an obvious difference until you're doing a rebuild, and you find the boots and seals for a sedan don't fit!
I assume the front brakes on the wagon are the same as those on the sedan. At least the rebuild kits are interchangeable. Found out the hard way, Russ M |
interesting
fact. sorry to misinform. i guess i only changed the fronts. the pads are the same, though, right? so the difference is i guess, subtle.

btw
i bet there are some wagons out there pulling a little to one side because people have changed out one rear caliper!

Yes it is the same
Hi there,
I just had a problem with my 300TD (83), so I order 2 new kits for the rear calipers. I hope to post pictures in the next week how to do the rebuild. It took me a good 3 hours to finish the job. With my luck :-) my wife's 300D 84 had a problem too at the same time. I found out that the calipers are the same. Hope this helps, Yossi |
DIFFERENT for sure
Fronts are the same, rears are different. Look up parts online and that will show you. There are also different types, ATE, Bendix to name a couple. I just bought one rear and rebuilt the other. the first caliper I got from O'Rielly's was the wrong type. They gave me a sedan rear caliper. Like someone said earlier, the piston is smaller on the sedan caliper. No doubt!
