Soooo, do I need to put sealant on the AT pan gasket?

I changed the fluid/filter/gasket on my 82 300D and now it's leaking more than ever. Should I have put some sort of silicon sealant on the gasket? If I over-torqued the drain pan bolts, would that make a difference?
