Brake Caliper, 240 1983 - bendix or ATE???

Greetings... this is my first post. I found the place with a search of google and I am delighted to see there are others that seem to think the W123 Mercedes diesel is great car. I have a rather nice 1983, 240D with manual 4 speed trans. which I am now fixing the front end of this car which includes the upper control link, drag link, tierods, shocks, etc. I have to replace/fix the front caliper on this car due to the fact that they are leaking. my question is what brand of Caliper is good Bendix or Ate? Also what should a spend for a Rebuilt caliper and were I should buy this part at. Thanks in advance and good to see others with interest in this type of car.. MK |

Your originals are probably ATE. However, I'd rebuild them rather than replace. It's an easy repair, and the cost for a rebuild kit is only $25 to $30. See link below. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=5064 Good luck!

are available for 45 at the local parts store here in laf. havent tried them yet but intend to do so on my 2 240ds. i prefer the ate calipers. really havent had trouble with the bendix but i dont like the little fussy hair pin retainers. tom w

If you can't clean them up with an abrasive pad or steel wool, I would not rebuild them. You could take them apart and inspect them before you buy the kits, however, that will make your downtime longer.
