Hi guys, can anyone tell me if it is possible to adjust the fuel strength on the fuel injection pump. I recently did this on a 602 Turbo engine by removing the rear housing on the injection pump slackening a locknut and unscrewing a adjuster screw. This increased the fueling and gave much improved low speed power and cold running.
Is the naturaly aspirated 602 pump the same , is there any other way to wake up this lazy engine the throttle is very slow to respond at low engine speeds and low speed torque is embarrasing [ my Landrover diesel leaves it for dead ]
I hope somebody can help thanks LINDS

2.5 fueling adjust

Hi there,
I guess i will have to answer my own question, i removed the air cleaner and found the injection pump is almost identical to the 602 turbo version. There is a elctric actuator on the end of the pump held on by two T30 torx drive screws . These need a good qaulity tool to remove because they are very shallow headed and have Locktite copiously applied to the threads, be carefull not to damage the heads when trying to unscrew!.
Once the screws are removed the actuator can be carefully removed engine oil will drip from the end of the pump when it is removed. Now use a small mirror and a flashlight to see into the end of the pump, you will see a large locknut [22mm socket size] with a centre adjuster with two slots in the end.I found that the socket i used to slacken the locknut needed to be very thin walled to clear the internal end casting of the pump, you may need to grind the outside of the socket for extra clearance. Once the locknut is slackened the centre adjuster can be turned by your fingers i unscrewed it by one and a half turns.Retighten the locknut and carefully ease back in the actuator taking care not to damage the large o ring.
The car imediately feels more responsive and as much improved low speed torque.

Cheers LINDS
