valve adjustment

Hey, Im trying to do a vavle adjustment on my 240D. I got some 14mm wrenches, heated them up and bent them. Works good, except i can't break the damn locknut. the wrenches just slip off the nut when i apply hard pressure. they were doing this before i bent them and heated them up as well. Im looking at buying the OEM wrenches and spring holder.
Do you think i may have the same problem with them, perhaps someone wore down the edges on the nuts, or do I just have cheap ass wrenches?
THANKS
Stephen

you should be able to tell if some idiot tried to adjust them using SAE wrenchs by looking....the edges should not be rounded over

if it starts good

and idles smoothly dont bother with a compression test unless you are thinking of spending a lot of money on restoration and wont if the motor is tired. if you are just going to run it just run it. a compression test is a hassle to do.

I'd be willing to bet this is the case.

Did you take a look?

Cheers,

rounded edges

no, it doesn't look like they are rounded off. Perhaps the wrenches spread a tiny bit when i heated them, although they were slipping before i heated them up. I think im just going to pull the whole head when i get money for a head kit. they ought to be easier to break then.
This car is a restoration project for me. never restored a car or done heavy mechanical work on a car. but im learning as i go and i thought this would be a great car to learn on. my only problem is funds, but.....
I graduate college on the 16th of this month! Industrial engineering. Got a job with Bechtel, so in about six months i ought to be able to buy all the proper tools and kits to really start getting knee deep in this car. I have two good cars so its no big deal if i take this apart and rebuild engine parts slowly.
