glow plugs

a shop in chicago charged me $500 + tax to replace all five of the glow plugs on my 617. That was before I knew my way around an MB diesel.

I like the original radio, notice AM is the first presets, not the second. :yup:
To me, original radios suggest car was not messed with.

The digital stick on clock is a bit tacky, I suppose that means either the analog one on the dash is not functioning, or the driver cannot read it.

How much of that was parts and how much labor?

Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if any established indy or dealer charged this much. Some places seem to do everything "by the book." Like everywhere I went to ask about having a freeze plug block heater installed quoted me $250, $50 for parts and $200 for labor. They all said the factory manual says the starter MUST be removed. From what all ya'll say here, it can be done without doing that.

So if a place says charges $500-$600 for replacing the glow plugs, perhaps it's because they remove the injector lines and everything else that's in the way (accelerator linkage, etc). Who knows, maybe they even clean out the prechambers?

Must be rare: the trunk star was only upside-down on 5 cars ever made.
Also, I would raise my reserve a bit if the car only had 20somethingK on the odo.
