87 300d Thermostat Change
Anyone change their thermostat? What do I need to take off to get to the bolts that hold it on. I can't get a wrench on them. Don't want to take it to the dealer and pay 1 1/2 hors labor charge.
Any help appreciated!! Thanks, Joe

I did it on my car about 2 years ago. I wound up jacking up the car, removing the passenger tire, air filter housing, and maybe even the heat shield panels. That gave me enough clearance.
It's a PITA. It made me wish I still had my w123 which has the thermostat conveniently located at the top area of the engine.

same here...
I did mine a couple months ago, i had to take off the air intake hose and the plastic panels underneath the car. I could get to it then. do you have the dreaded #14 head? i do, and it's good to keep the engine temp under control.

Thanks for the replies. Mine is stuck open and the engine won't warm up when the outside temp drops. I need to do this before it gets too cold. Last winter was tough to get through without heat.
I'll try to take pictutres as I go. Thanks, Joe
