I spilled some on my leather cellphone cover when I was doing a bit of the doorpanel in oh, April, and it's still on there. Nice and silver.

From another thread here is another product:

http://www.rustbullet.com/index.htm

Also, don't get it on your hootus...
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=18595

Brake fluid does seem to remove POR15 though, I just wouldn't use it on your Hootus.

I used POR-15 on a battery tray in an old Mb. Preparation was to rinse off the acid, rinse again with a bi-carb solution, rinse again w/water, wash and rinse with bicarb, letting it sit this time. yada, yada , yada. let dry with a heat lamp for three days, paint with por15. Install one of those yellow battery acid pads and the battery. This was 3 years ago. Recently noticed battery was leaking and removed it. Battery pad was pretty well soaked. Removed it. Now, the POR15 was basically flaking off in big slabs like GM paint but not much damage occurred. I've started the rinse business again but am going to try rust-bullet this time. Won't be a good test since I am replacing the battery with an Optima. This isn't a bad-mouth of POR-15, you do have to prep carefully per their instructions; I did not use the metal wash they spoke about. Other things I've POR-15'd are holding up well but they are not subject to battery acid.

I have never heard of the bicarb part of that treatment...
but anything which comes off in chunks or layers indicates an adhesion problem....not a substance problem...
If it were powdering, or rusting under the application I would suspect the covering...
I only sandblasted my last test... the bottom of a lawn mower deck.... have not put it back together yet.. BUT the fingernail test indicates the stuff is really hard...
And I know that there are decades of good reports concerning POR15 from the people who restore cars and other metal stuff who congregate around Hemmings Motor News...
Prep is everything on any paint... but may be exagerated concerning POR15... but they are very explicit in the directions which come with the cans...

They say it's a good idea to put baking soda on the terminals to neutralize the acid.

Rustbullet STICKS. And for some reason, I can't seem to open a can of it without getting it EVERYWHERE, including my hair. Wipe with acetone while it's fresh and it cleans up.

then you need full body condoms when you use it....... POR-15 shares those qualities too.

I may try the Rust Bullet material. I had some POR15 installed on some flanges at the wet end of the paper machine where it stays wet/slimy 24/7 then gets a caustic cleaning every 8 weeks and it is still on there (since March 2005). It will be interesting to see how the Rust Bullet holds up against the POR15.

I just used POR15 for the first time tonight, actually I just finished the prep and I'm about to start painting. Glad to see that this stuff holds up, everyone I know that has used it says it's the best out there.
