Valve adjustment-trans shifts earlier?

Does anyone know if a valve adjustment would alter the way my trans shifts.? It seems to shift earlier and a little softer.

Locate the sheathed cable that attaches to the linkage mechanism on top of the valve cover. It goes down towards the transmission on the passenger side. See if it is kinked or incorrectly installed in some way. Kind of hard to explain how it should go. I will see if I can find a picture.
