I know I've read that the 86/87 300sdl's had rod bending, is this true of the 86/87 300d turbo 6 cyl?

Thanks

No, the rod benders are the 3.5s that came later. You do not have to feel left out as there are head and vaccum pump issues with your year.To have an engine that bent rods as well would be a little much. A check of the archives should answer all your questions as your engine has been debated to death. Important to change out the vaccum pump right away if it is the original or old style. Unfortunatly it destroys otherwise good engines

Thanks, I don't actually have one. I have been researching and test driving various models. I will do my best to search the archives.

The 603.960 engine, which you are inquiring about, is not normally associated with bending of connecting rods. It has happened to at least one member, but it's nowhere near as common as situation with the 603.970 engine found in the '90-'95 S class M/B.
