quick 300sd ign switch question

I've read most of the DIY on ignition switch R&R and have a quickie here...I need to replace the electrical part of the switch...just the section between where the wire harness connects to the rest of the unit and want to know if it's do-able without removing the switch itself. I already have the cluster removed, been loose for 400 miles now, and can imagine 2 of 3 screws coming loose no sweat, the third is buried on the right side near the harness and maybe other stuff and don't see an easy out there...just wonder if anyone has done that part of the switch in-dash b4. ...and being lazy don't want to pull the whole schmeer. Thanks...
