84 300SD Electrical problem

I’ve had this problem for over a year now... it’s not a big problem, but recently I’ve been spending a lot for money on the old girl and I’d like to get rid of all the problems.. At least for a short period of time.

Here’s my problem. My #15 fuse keeps blowing. Thus I have no interior lights. I thought the problem was that the foot light in the driver’s door broke, the plastic broke the assembly fell into the door and I slammed the door on it. So I went to the junk yard, got a new plastic lens and put that back together. Also the power antenna (also on that circuit) died. So I unplugged it. I figured that I had solved the problem, but nope. I put the furs in and it fried instantly, burning my thumb pretty bad. So now I’m really pissed.

The other weird thing that happens is, at night when I have the lights on, the break lights on (foot on the break) and the blinker on, the blinker buzzes with the buzzer under the dash, very annoying. I think this is part of the problem on having no number 15 fuse.

Anyone got any ideas? Any place for me to start looking to fix this problem?

Thanks

Nik

I had the same fuse problem on my 84 190D with the same finger frying result. Apparently there was/is a dead short in the antenna wire between the front and rear of the car; I disconnected the antenna feed under the dash and just live with the antenna up.

I have a new electrical issue at present. Front marker/running lights, and tail lights, are in a permanently "on" mode. Had this problem a year ago and replaced the headlight switch to no avail, but the problem went away after a month or so, only to recur this week. Could it possibly have something to do with the hazard flasher switch? Flashers haven't worked since I bought the car and directionals only work if flasher switch is in one position. If anyone has any ideas where to start I would appreciate some input.

Thanks,
Jim

is there a way i can get my hands on the electrical diagrams in order to help me track down my problem?

jaoneill, do you remember where under the dash the disconnect is for the antenna? i unpluged it in the trunk, with no luck.

anyone know where this disconnect is on my 300SD?

Nik

It is in the wire cluster behind the radio.

Good luck,
Jim
