Cleaning the carbon off.

I hope this doesn't turn into an oil type thread.

But I was wondering what you all use to clean your cars. Specifically if you do anything special on the back where the black stuff accumulates.

Thanks

car wash detergent (never dish or laundry soap) in very warm water with a scrub mit has always worked for me.

Run biodiesel. I run B100 and I don't have any problem with the soot collecting on the rear.

Carwash Soap Choices

Use any of the available car wash soaps , they all cut the Diesel residue and road grime without attacking the paint , they're cheap too .

Or , use SWMBO's " Woollite " (just don't get caught ! ) as it's gentle but good at cutting oil & grease too .

If you have your Merc' polished once or twice a year , the oil and spooge will slide right off wheever you wash it.....

I've NEVER had that problem actually but then I think my 95 E300D was probably the best diesel that's out there of all the different models. Yes I am a little prejudice.

Try a white car, black cars do not qualify for this contest.

If you drove a wagon you don't have to worry about getting spooge on it

You can easily remove the tail lense and clean the inside of it. The soot is actually on the inside of the lens and cleans out easily with soap and the water spicket. Be careful not to break any of the studs off. The plastic is brittle that holds the metals stubs. I cleaned the lenses on my 116 and it looked MUCH better. The rights side will have some in it too you just won't notice it until you clean the left side. You may want to splurge and replace the lens gaskets, but that probably wouldn't be worth it. It takes an 8mm to remove the lens. The nuts are in the inside of the trunk after you have the cover off you'll see what I mean.

Now I just wish my SDL used the same plastic as on the 123 and 116. My reverse lights are yellow from age, and there's nothing I can do about that except replace them.

Thanks
David

Simple Green seems to work on most things and it's supposed to be environmentally friendly.

I'd also look at the ALDA.
And I'm wondering if a good looking chrome exhaust tip would help by getting the fumes further away from the car?
