New 1979 300TD, questions
Hi, everybody, I'm Dave Kent, in Louisville, Ky. aka Glassman. Just bought a '79 300td (which I already love ), and have started fixing little things. PO installed too tall heavy duty rear springs, which create bad rear toe-in, fishy handling, and mighty whumps from the rear cavern(the rear wheel arches show four inches plus above the tires). Does anybody have a pair of used stock springs they'd part with? Or would I be better off getting new stock ones? The car has appx. 300,000 miles, and is in overall very good shape.
I may be the only guy who feels this way, but I really like the light beige ribbed cloth interior. Is there a source for replacement seat covers in this original cloth, or for cloth to repair sections? Anybody have a good left rear lower seat cushion, and good front seat covers from a parts car, etc? Please check my other questions re ventilation woes, rear window regulators, etc. on the Tech questions section. Is there any way to get a question to appear on two boards (Diesel and Tech) at the same time? I'm a painfully slow typist, and typing questions out twice seems like torture. Thanks in advance for all your help. Glassman |

Sounds like your interior is the european version so not all that common here. Most north american versions have tex interiors (a vinyl) or real leather. One might consider taking the interior front, back seats and door panels from a junkyard car? Providing one can be found with a real good interior of course. Other than that suspect material will be available but in europe. Also I might be wrong but the material suppliers I am aware of only carry the north american market type of materials. Glad you like your aquisition. You can post your other so called tech issues on this part of the forum as a lot of the guys over here are pretty sharp and knowledgeable plus highly specialized on you particular vehicle type. Plus they are very helpful and have a lot of combined knowlege not available anyplace else I can think of. I do not consider myself to be very knowledgeable compared to the majority on this site.
