Randy, I never bothered with the gland nut. Just unbolted the flexdisc from the diff and removed the diff. The diff moved rearward slightly and immediately came off the flexdisc.
Upon installation of the 2.88, attaching the drive shaft to the flexdisc didn't pose any problems due to the length.
