Don't forget those engines also move/use a lot more fuel....they're huge V8's.....They probably circulate the diesel like crazy....

This is NOT good advice ESPICALLY if your prefilter was anything but clear.

The type of automobile is not the important part...its the cleanliness of the fuel you get (as was stated above).

Just making it clear to those reading...a clear filter being black means you NEED to change the filters.

If my prefilter is black, I change it. While I have it off, I check for flow from the tank and deal with the intank filter screen if needed. If I still lack power, then I replace the bolt-on filter. Usually go through several prefilters for every secondary filter.

You are right. A black prefilter needs to be changed. All I mean is if you find yourself changing filters all the time, it is time to change gas stations. For 25 years I allways bought my fuel at busy truck stops. Then you know you are getting fresh fuel.

Thanks for clarifying. I just wanted to make sure someone didn't misinterprete and think they never needed to change their filters cause their car is german.

Get the good clean stuff and you need change them less often.

"So why does GM and Ford tell you to change the filters so often in there diesels?"

Don't know about GM or Ford but on my 12 valve Dodge/Cummins its not good for the IP to get starved of fuel, its really bad on the newer 24 valve Cummins.

I don't change my MB fuel filters till I notice a little loss of power on a hill.

My 240 had the same symtoms and I did not heed it's warning and act promptly. It stranded me and would not start, I changed both filters, no start. I remembered a thread on here where someone suggested switching the supply fuel line and the fuel return line to check if the fuel filter in the tank was clogged. It started. I could also blow into the supply line and it was clogged , I could tell when it broke loose but not enough to crank. After switching the lines it cranked , time now to clean the tank filter.

Had the same problem, went to the hardware store and got this...#30 cap thread gasket stk no 35566B made by Danco Company Concordville Pa 19331. That's right from the plastic packaging. From what I can tell, it's a composite of some sort. Fits, no leaks. I have a couple laying around, but not the 240, my others do not need 'em.
